As a part of a course a team of students took a closer look at the manual process of making a service appointment for tire change at a car dealership. With the help of Robotik Process Automation Programs the could optimize and partially fully digitized the process.

To make an appointment to change tires with a customer, an employee must complete several process steps. In addition to accepting the request, he must check the availability of the appointment in parallel with the workshop capacity. The customer data and the associated tire inventory must also be checked manually. The process is completed with booking the appointment, creating an order and subsequent invoicing.

This can we automatized with a digital robot.

RPA software robots can be used for any software which can be used by a human user. It is important to know that the robot automatizes the process and does not only support it. The company UiPath offers different executions of a RPA software. For beginners the StudioX version makes it possible to build a RPA without specific programming skills. 
During the workflow the RPA opens the program windows similar as a human user would have done. During the workflow the RPA access and controls the different programs.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Microsoft Dynamics NAV is an ERP-System which supports the process and resource management of a company. It can be access via SQL or OData. 

In the case of the tire change, various data are queried from the ERP system. These include the workshop capacity, tire storage data, customer number and service item number. Furthermore, the generation of a service order via Dynamics NAV is realized by the RPA.

AP Plus

AP Plus is also an ERP-System which supports the process and resource management of companies. 

The access from the RPA is guaranteed via the browser. APPlus acts as a database. The customer data and the assignment of the customer vehicles to the tires are queried.
